"Our
children need
to see
Honesty,
Integrity and
Commitment to
Excellence in
everything we
do daily.”
"Children do
what we do,
not what we
say.”
“My real claim to fame is my two daughters Zundra and Leslie.
They
are my role
models.”
“We
need to be
responsible and
accountable for
ourselves and our
children.
“Children
are a gift from God,
and if allowed, can
show us the true
meaning of success
and unconditional
love.”
“We
owe our children two
things; love them
and teach them how
to make good
decisions. “
THE
ISSUES/SOLUTIONS
Student
Achievement:
We need clear and succinct mission and vision for our children’s
education, with
Student Achievement
being the focal
point.
Students,
teachers, parents,
school
administrators and
district
administrators need
to monitor student
progress, provide
feedback and use
that information to
improve achievement.
The
opportunity to learn
must be reinforced
at home and in the
community.
Technology:
Technology
can provide feedback
to teachers and
students
immediately; it can
be used to manage
performance; it can
organize and
disseminate
instructional
management
information.
Technology
has not been
systematically put
to good use in our
schools; it is
unevenly
distributed; a
plethora of
competing programs
are used; and the
district still
doesn’t have a
district-wide K-12
computer-based
student
instructional
management
information system.
Accountability:
In effective
schools students,
parents, teachers
and administrators
are held
accountable; the
schools themselves
are held accountable
and districts should
be held accountable.
Strong
accountability
systems need to be
in place if students
are to succeed.
We need to
engage the community
in helping with
instruction and
reinforcing high
standards. We need to acknowledge and build on the uniqueness of
individual schools.
Change
requires self
regulated hard work.
“You
can’t copy
excellence.”
Schools and
teachers need
different degrees of
flexibility to carry
out their work.
Diversity:
Our children
have to be able to
be intellectually
competitive on a
global basis.
We have to
foster a spirit of
inclusion.
Every child
in Broward County
deserves the same
chance to make the
most of their gifts
regardless of their
station in life, and
education is the key
to that opportunity.
Conflict
Mediation:
Learning
opportunities must
occur in a safe,
supportive,
respectful
environment for
students and
faculty.
We have to
teach our children
how to handle
conflict without
resorting to
violence, especially
violence directed
toward their fellow
students and our
teachers.
Our parents
and the community
need to take the
lead on this issue.
Schools are Institutions
of Knowledge,
not
Boot Camp!
Customer
Focused:
Simply put,
education is the
product, teachers
are the facilitators
of the product,
parents and
communities should
be the nurturers,
motivators,
disciplinarians, and
protectors of our
children. Our children are our customers.
